Bodhgaya is the place where the wandering prince Siddhartha sat in meditation below a Bodhi Tree. His three days of initial meditation and subsequent seven weeks of enlightenment have been closely associated with various places in Bodh Gaya. History remembers Bodh Gaya as Bodhimanda and the main monastery as the Bodhimanda-vihra (Pali). HistoryEdit

Patiala state history starts off with the ancestor of the Sikh Patiala Royal House, Mohan Singh being harassed by neighbouring Bhullars and Dhaliwals (tappedars of the terrirtory). They would not allow Mohan to settle there. He was a follower of Guru Hargobind and the Guru appealed on behalf of Mohan, but to no avail. The result was an armed struggle and the Bhullars and Dhaliwals were defeated by the Guru’s men, which allowed Mohan to establish the Village of Meharaj in 1627. Patiala district is one of the famous princely cities of erstwhile Punjab. It presents a beautiful banquet of the life style even to a casual visitor to the city. It is the ‘City of palaces and museums’ is a brilliant spectrum of Rajpoot, Mughal and Punjabi cultures.

HistoryEdit

The Nani Lake is the identity as well as the backbone of the place. There are many legends in scriptures that signify the presence of this place many, many years ago. The ‘Manas Khand’ of the ancient scripture ‘Skanda Purana’ says that the place was traditionally known as the ‘Tri-Rishi-Sarovar. Tri means ‘three,’ Rishi means ‘Sage,’ and Sarovar means ‘the lake.’ Together the place was known as the lake of three sages and was named after the three rishis, Atri, Pulastya, and Pulaha. Nainital is famous for the Naini Lake where it is believed that Lord Shiva performed his tandava with Parvati’s body. The Naini peak or the China peak is the highest in Nainital with a height of 2611mts. Some of the other places of tourist interest are the Mall, now known as the Govind Ballabh Pant Marg.

HistoryEdit

Mussoorie, the Hill station owes its credit to the British army officer named Captain Young. The beauty of the hill station impressed the military officer a lot and he finally made up his mind to reside at the place, in the year 1825. This is how the hill station of Mussoorie was founded. Colonel Everest chose to stay here and built a home in 1832. More and more British officers followed suit and by the year 1901, the population of the hill resort was 6,461. During summers, the population of Mussoorie swelled up to a total of 15,000 at that time. During 1920s and 1930s, the Nehru family became the frequent visitors to Mussoorie.
