Pavagadh Hill is situated within a plain in Panchmahal district, Gujarat, western India. At its base is the historical city of Champaner, while the hill station of Pavagadh was built upon the volcanic cone itself. A volcanic eruption occurred here approximately 500 million years ago and the etymology of its name is associated with eruption: Pavgadh means “one fourth hill” or “fire-hill”, though a legend surrounding its formation is that the right foot of Sati is believed to have fallen at Pavagadh and God “sent a large hill as per the request of Rishi Vishwamitra to fill up a deep valley so that the sage’s cows do not fall into it.Pavagadh is a historical and religious destination at the base town of Champaner.A pilgrimage spot, called the Shakti Peeth, the Pavagadh hill leads to the hill top temple of the Goddess Kali, who is the incarnation of the Goddesses Parvati, Durga, and Sati as Shakti or power. The mythological belief makes the Pavagadh hill popular is the symbolic toe of the Goddess Sati, who happened to have fallen on earth as the grief-stricken Lord Shiva, Sati’s husband, carried her dead body on his shoulders. The myths and religious fervor attracts around 2.5 million pilgrims and tourists to Pavagadh each year.

Pavagadh is a Hill Station, and a Municipality in Panchmahal district about 46 kilometres (29 mi) away from Vadodara in Gujarat state in western India. It is known for a famous Mahakali temple which draws thousands of pilgrims everyday. By Air : The nearest airport is the one in Vadodara, and this airport has frequent flight to the cities of Bangalore, Delhi, Goa, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, and flight fares from Vadodara to Bangalore will range around Rs 4000 to 5000. You can also opt for flights from the city of Mumbai to Vadodara, which will cost you around Rs 2500. Buses can be taken from Vadodara to Pavagadh.
By Train : Arrive at Vadodara City Railway station.
By Bus : Buses can also be taken from the city of Mumbai to Vadodara, and these will charge fares of around Rs 600 to 700 for air conditioned coaches. You can also opt for buses to Pavagadh from Udapiur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pune and Nasik via Vadodara. Buses from Jaipur will charge fares of around Rs 350 and buses from Ahmedabad to Vadodara will charge you fares of around Rs 130 for a single trip.
