Jallathiru Vizha ; Venue:  Tiruchy ; Period :  September-October ; Details:  Jallathiru Vizha is a festival celebrated in September-October. Tuticorin, also locally (and popularly) known as Thoothukudi, is a city in southern India, in the state of Tamil Nadu. The town Thoothukudi derives its name from the Tamil words ‘Thoothu’ and ‘Kudi’ which respectively mean ‘Dig’ and ‘Drink’. The city of Tuticorin does not have any rivers, and the only source of water for the locals is through its various wells. Tuticorin is also known for its pearls, as fishing for pearls is a popular occupation here. The city has a huge port, and is one of the important port towns in the state. Tuticorin, also known as Thoothukudi is a port city and a Municipal Corporation and an Industrial city in Thoothukudi district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.Tuticorin also has a major temple that it is very famous for – the Tiruchendur temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya. The temple is also located near the sea, and this is an added attraction. The other places you can visit the Kattabomman Memorial Fort when you visit the city, and this memorial is dedicated to the freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman, who was one of the key figures in the Indian resistance towards the British.

By Air : Tuticorin has an airport that is located around fourteen kilometers from the city, and domestic flights are available from here to the city of Chennai. Air travel will cost around Rs 4000 on a domestic level.

By Train : Tuticorin has a major railway station too, and regular trains are available from here to the cities and towns of Mysore, Tirunelveli, Tiruchendur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Dindigul. Traveling through trains is easy, though the tickets should be booked in advance. Train fares will range around Rs 200 to 600, depending on the class of travel and the distance covered.

By Bus : The city of Tuticorin is very well connected to other towns in the region through a regular network of buses. Buses from Tuticorin ply to all parts of the state, including the cities and towns of Madurai, Trichy, Vellore, Palayamkottai, Tiruchendur, Palayakayal, and Ramanathapuram. Bus fares will normally range between Rs 150 to 500, and traveling through buses is an ideal option. The fares will depend on the distance covered through the travel.

Tura is a large town that is situated in the state of Meghalaya in the West Garo Hills district. The town is situated in a scenic location and the peak of Tura overlooks the town. The town is present in a valley and it is surrounded by hills. The region is still relatively untouched and exploration in this region has been minimal. The town is situated close to the border of Bangladesh, which is at a distance of 50 kilometers from the place. The main inhabitants of the town are the Garo tribe. The town is a gateway to some places such as Nokrek, Balpakram and Siju Caves. The Nokrek National Park is located at a distance of 12 kilometers from the town of Tura and it has a wide variety of fauna and flora. This is an interesting day trip and one can see animals such as pangolin, wild buffalo, serow, pheasant, leopard, golden cat and languor. Tigers are also said to be present in the park. One can also visit the Rongbang Dar Waterfall. The Siju caves are located near a lake called Naoak and it is filled with water. The caves are a natural wonder and worth the visit.

There are frequent flights from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Chennai, Jaipur, Itanagar, Bangalore, Agartala, Kolkata and Shillong. Flights are available from foreign cities such as Bangkok as well. Taxis are available at the airport and this is the only option to reach the place from the airport. Tunganath is an ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is the highest temple by altitude of land of lord Shiva. Tungnath is the second temple in the circuit of Panch Kedar. It is located in the Rudraprayag district. Tungnath means the lord of the peaks. Shiva’s arms are worshipped in Tungnath. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is one of the five and the highest Panch Kedar temples located in the mountain range of Tunganath in Rudraprayag district, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is a domestic airport located at about 20 km away from city center of Dehradun. Taxi cabs are available from Dehradun airport to Tungnath (up to Chopta, at distance of 3.5 km from Tungnath), which cost about Rs 4,000. The airport operates daily flights to Delhi. By Train : The nearest railhead is at Rishikesh which is about 215 km away from Tungnath. Trains are available from Rishikesh to other major cities in India.
