Nathdwara in the Indian state of Rajasthan is a coveted centre of Krishna worship, majestically placed on the serene banks of Banas River. It is a unique pilgrim center where one can see one among the prettiest manifestations of Lord Krishna. The place is as romantic as the term sounds. Literally the term Nathdwara stands for the doorway to the lord. This pictorial countryside is speckled with an array of ancient temples whose stamped stockades reawaken the legendary tales of a compassionate Lord. Though a tiny locale, the town acquires credence as the abode of Srinath one of the popular icons of Lord Krishna. Popularly called as the Appollo of Mewar, this devout centre is the hub of Pushtimarga sect who adorns the lord as a child. Jog Falls

India /Karnataka /Shimoga /Jog Falls

Jog Falls, the highest waterfall in India is the creation of the Sharavathi River in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. Cascading from a height of 253 meters (829 ft), the waterfall is also known as Gerusoppe falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi. The history of the falls goes back to the year 1800, when the site was first discovered by Buchanan during one his journeys.Jog Falls mainly comprises of four different streams of the River Sharavati, plunging down a steep incline in the district of Shimoga. The significance of Jog Falls is that in this waterfall, the water does not stream down the rocks in a tiered fashion. On the contrary, the water thunders down the slope losing contact with the rocks, thus making Jog Falls the tallest untiered waterfall in the country. This is the reason why Jog Falls is a famous tourist destination frequented by almost every tourist visiting India. The area around the fall is excellent for trekking. There are four different streams or tracks into which the River Sharavati is split, comprising the entire structure of Jog Falls, and these streams are: Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer. The best season to visit this waterfall is the monsoons when this gigantic body displays its maximum charm. Though one will find dense vapour engulfing the waterfall, but when the mighty waterfalls the vapour evaporated in an ethereal manner. The best look of the waterfall can be had by lying down and looking over the giant from the slabs of rock near the Bombay bungalow. Watkin’s platform is another spot from where the view is splendid.

HistoryEdit

Jog Falls is perhaps the most famous waterfall in India. The falls stand 829 feet tall and can stretch to almost 2000 feet in width at peak flow. This translates into Jog Falls being one of the most powerful waterfalls on the planet, and if it was a permanently free-flowing waterfall would most likely elevate its rating such to be one of the top five on earth. Under normal conditions the falls divide into four distinct segments – each given a name thought to reflect its character; (from left to right) the Raja, the Roarer, the Rocket, and the Rani (White Lady). Jog Falls mainly comprises of four different streams of the River Sharavati, plunging down a steep incline in the district of Shimoga.
