At the end of February or in early March, the exclusive National Ramayana Fair is held in Chitrakoot. This fair is especially popular because the entire Ramayana, a vast poem with over 24,000 couplets, is recited here. In modern times, Diwali, seems to have lost its former glory, and is restricted mainly to festivities at local temples and lighting traditional diyas (earthen oil lamps) and candles at home.Legend has it that when Rama returned to Ayodhya, the city was lit up by thousands of diyas to welcome him. Diyas are still lit in homes during Diwali. Fireworks lend a spectacular dimension to this festival.

Marble Rocks also known as Bhedaghat, is a gorge, formed by the picturesque water falls called Dhuandhar, is nestled on the Narmada River, 21 km. from Jabalpur, in Madhya Pradesh. The Narmada River that flows through Madhya Pradesh has created a wonderfully carved soft marble gorge, stretching a distance of 3 km. The Marble Rocks towering nearly 100 feet high above the flowing river, the white marbles are covered with dark volcanic creases of green and black making the contrast even more enchanting. The waterfalls along the marbles and rocks create a mist-like effect, giving the look of smoke erupting from the water, making it a mesmerizing sight to see. This massive white water gushing down creates the waterfall, Dhuandhar that erodes the rocks and forms the gorge, Marble Rocks.

HistoryEdit

Dahanu’s historical significance can be traced back to 16th century AD. When the Portuguese had firmly established their dominion on the west coast of India between Daman in North and Karanja in the South, they divided their Thana territories into two divisions viz. Daman and Vasai (also known as Basai by Muslims, Bacaim by Portuguese, Bajipur by Marathas and Bassein by the British), then an important ship building center whereupon Dahanu (then called ‘Danu’) was included in the Daman division along with three other districts — Sanjan, Tarapur and Mahim. Dahanu’s historical significance as a trade city may be witnessed by the fort on the mouth of Dahanu creek. Savta port was once a busy trade center especially for teak wood, catechus and other farm produce. “Dahanuka” also occurs in one of the Nashik cave inscriptions. Dahanu has a conglomeration of people from almost all walks of life. Thus, it has temples/ worship places of all the religions. Apart from Mahalaksmi, the Santoshi Mata, Sai Baba Temple, and Jain temples, Dahanu also have Mosques, Churches, Gurudwara and Fire-Temples. There are exclusive worship pleases of The Warlis.

HistoryEdit

Ramtek is a small town, situated at a distance of approximately 42 km to the northeast of the Nagpur city of Maharashtra. It falls under the Nagpur district and is held in high regard by the Hindus. This is because this town is believed to be associated with Lord Rama. There is hill situated near Ramtek, known as the Ramgiri Hill. The hill houses a historical temple of Lord Rama, which is said to be more than 600 years old. This temple has greatly added to the travel attraction of the city. The legend also goes that Lord Rama stopped at Ramtek, along with His wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, while on his exile. Another fact that adds to the attraction of the town, from tourism point of view, is its association with the Great poet Kalidasa. He wrote his excellent poem, Meghdoot in the hills of Ramtek only. The major attractions of Ramtek comprise of the 27 Brahmanical style temple that have been constructed atop the hill. Amongst them is the Lakshmana Temple, which dates back to as far back as 1400 AD. The town serves as the venue of the Kalidasa Festival, held every year in the month of November. A fortnight-long festival, it boasts of performances by virtuosos in the field of music, dance and drama. Ramsagar Lake, a serene lake, and the Jain temple situated here are also worth having a look at.

How to ReachEdit

By Air : Nearest airport is Nagpur 50-km away from Ramtek.

By Train : There is a railway station in Ramtek, which appears on South Central Railway. Regular trains ply between Nagpur and Ramtek.

By BUS : The temple is situated outside the Ramtek town. It is about 50 Kms from Nagpur. Bus services and private vehicles are available to this place.

By Taxi : There are taxis (cabs) available at the Airport and Railway Station. You can also rent a Qualis a slang generic term for a SUV-taxi named after the common Toyota Qualis(but now are available as many other brands, such as the Chevy and India’s own luxury brand, Mahindra). Normally they are offered with a driver, and they will stay with you all day, week, or even month if you’d like. This chauffeur can normally understand English, and knows the city very well.

By Other : The best way to get around are the yellow and black 3 wheeled taxicabs known as the Autorickshaws or simply Rickshaws. Hollering ‘Auto’ or ‘Rickshaw’ at a passing Rickshaw should be enough to catch the drivers attention. In most cases the drivers would be able to understand Hindi and maybe even a few words of English. They are normally quite helpful but are known to cheat tourists so bargain hard and it might be a good idea to ask a pedestrian to get an idea about how much it costs normally to reach your destination by auto. In Nagpur, auto rickshaws don’t follow the meter system. They all have them, they are supposed to follow them, but, it will be hard to find an auto with a working meter. Private vehicles are available to this place.

Ganapatipule

India /Maharashtra /Ratnagiri /Ganapatipule

Ganapatipule, a capturing village in Maharashtra, is important to the Indian nationalists as it is the birthplace of the leader Lokmanya Tilak. It is a sleepy village in the Ratnagiri district of southwest Maharashtra in India. Since the village is not touched by commercialism, the Arcadian beauty of the village is raised many times. There is a 6 kilometer virgin beach on the fantastic Konkan coastline. It is the belief of the locals that the village of Ganapatipule is blessed. In the days when men were devotees and miracles took place, the four Dwardatas were welcomed to the sub-continent and Ganapatipule is believed to be the western deity. According to legend, once a villager was running away from the clashes and when he made his way through the jungles he stumbled on Lord Ganapati’s idol. He built a temple around the idol. From the past 400 years, people have been caring and making additions to the shrines and the temple is how it looks today. The village of Ganapatipule is famous for its 400-year-old Ganesha temple. The idol is curved from one massive rock. The idol is a Swayambhu Ganpati shrine which means that it is a self-created monolith of Lord Ganesha. The village has a beautiful beach where the river meets the Arabian Sea and the hill that is shaped like Ganpati enchants the visitors.
