HistoryEdit

Pawapuri was one of the twin capitals of Mall Mahajanpad about 2600 year ago. Later it was included in the Magadha Kingdom and was known as “Madyama Pawa” or “Apawapuri”. When Lord Mahavir lived at this place, it was under the rule of Ajatshatru, King of Magadh, who was also a great disciple of Lord Mahavira and Hastipal was the King of Pawapuri. While in Pawapuri, Lord Mahavira resided in the “Rajikshala” of King Hastipal. HistoryEdit

Patna once called Pataliputra the capital of Bihar,is among the world’s oldest capital cities with unbroken history of many centuries as imperial metropolis. A very fertile arched stretch of land along the bank of the Ganga. The history and heritage of modern day Patna go back well over two millennia. Like Delhi, Patna too had been the regal seat of governance for successive kingdoms since ancient times. And to this day, it is the capital city of the state. As each ruler ascended in power and established dynastic glory, he gave his capital a new name. Thus, the ancient Kusumpura metamorphosed through Pushpapura, Pataliputra, Azeemabad and now into Patna, a continuous history ranging from 6th century BC to present times – a record claimed by few cities in the world. It was Ajatshatru the Magadha king who first built a small fort in Pataligram on the bank of the Ganga in 6th century BC, which later blossomed into the ancient glory still to be seen in the neighboring archaeological sites at Kumrahar. Bhiknapahari, Agamkuan, Bulandi Bagh and Kankar Bagh.

Nalanda

India /Bihar /Nalanda /Nalanda

Nalanda in Bihar represents a glitzy visage of Indian renaissance. A hot seat of knowledge and learning, Nalanda boast of a rich culture and tradition that has gained accolades world wide. This tiny village was the favourite place of Lord Buddha and Mahavira who had lived here for several years. There is a fabulous legend behind the name Nalanda, which narrates how this village got its name. It goes like this that the place where the monastery was going to be constructed was the abode of a serpent and while digging the foundation the serpent got injured. The clairvoyants of that time observed that the monastery that would have been constructed in that place would be renowned for a long. Later this Monastery turned to be a great institution of knowledge, whose unparallel credentials gave it a unique seat in the entire history of the nation. To the outside world, Nalanda still beckons the remains of this residential school of bygone eras. But it is not just the remnants of a great institution that Nalanda offers to its visitors. Apart from the ramparts of ancient monuments and Buddhist shrines, this historic place offers some of the popular pilgrim centers and holy spots.

HistoryEdit

The history of Nalanda goes back to the times of Lord Mahavira and Lord Buddha in the 6th century. Various legends have been associated with the evolution of the name ‘Nalanda’. While some believe the name to have been derived from the terms ‘Nalam’ meaning ‘Lotus’ and ‘da’ that means ‘to give’, Hieun Tsang in his documents has suggested a ‘naga’ to have been the inspiration behind the name of the city. Nalanda is also famed for being the birthplace of Sariputra, an important follower of Lord Buddha.Nalanda has been an important center for Buddhism point of view, as Lord Buddha is said to have visited it many times. Various memoirs of Chinese travellers Hieun Tsang and Fi Han confirm them to have been a student at the then Nalanda University, which is the first university of its kind in the world.Emperor King Asoka, a great patron of Buddha is also closely associated with Nalanda. He is said to have built many temples here. It was during this time, i.e. 2nd century B.C. that the renowned alchemist and philosopher Nagarjuna studied and taught here.

HistoryEdit

A special feature of Diveagar is its 5 kilometre long coast line. It spreads between the Velas Creek on the right and Korli River on the left. The beach is velvety and pristine with a back- drop of Kevda trees and the coconut palms. The first mentioned is a little distance from the Ganapati temple. The latter is a little further up. It is not known authentically as to who built these temples. They may have belonged to the Nath Panthi (order). When in the 6th century Diwakar founded Diveagar, the temple was known as Bhanukadevi. Both the temples are relatively small, built from purplish stone, and have tiled roof. The idols inside are made out of black rock and are not very well chiselled. Both have a courtyard in front. The temple is important as the village deity of Diveagar.

The all-knowing God noticed the difficulties which his devotee was undergoing. The God told Bholanath when he was visiting Dwarka that he need not walk all the way to distant Dwarka as he had decided to stay at Dakor (Dhankpuri of olden times). So God accompanied him to Dakor.
