Vengurla

India /Maharashtra /Sindhudurg /Vengurla

The ways of nature are strange and the methods of poetic justice are amusingly bizarre. A great civilization is grounded to dust in a fortnight as the Mayan’s realized at the cost of own existence and some obscure villages and cities become the focus of attention just because of one act of bravery or even stupidity by a human or nature (The shifting of capital from New Delhi to Devgiri fort by Sultan Mehmood). The history of Vengurla tells us a strikingly similar story about a busy port of yesteryear that lost its role and existence in the folds of history. This town located on the shores of Maharashtra has often been mentioned as a bustling trade center during its golden past. One of the busiest ports of its times Vengurla excelled in trade and business. The relics of those heady golden days still stand tall inform of Huge Warehouses, Godowns, markets and trading centers. The port was central to many trading activities during the rule of the Maratha King Chatrapati Shivaji. The town has been making waves in the recent past more due to its beauty and beaches than its history. The natural beauty that has always engulfed this part of the coastline has been inviting the nature lovers for decades however, it has recently gained prominence and word of mouth advertising has led to the well deserved recognition and upliftment of the place.

HistoryEdit

Tulapur and Vadhu are two small villages located in the Pune District within the state of Maharashtra. Both the villages are seeped deep into India’s history and are associated with the precious last living moments of Shivaji Maharaj’s son – Sambhaji. Tulapur is about 40 km away from Pune, situated to the north east. It is cased at the confluence of the three rivers of Brahma, Bhama and Indrayani. Tulapur was earlier referred to as Nagargaon. Vadhu, on the other hand is the seat of the Samadhi of Sambhaji Maharaj, and his poet friend, Kavi Kalash. Despite the fact that both these villages are small, both, Tulapur and Vadhu have an equally important role in the historic chapters of the Maratha rule in India. As said earlier, Chhatrapati Sambhaji was killed in Tulapur, while he was cremated in Vadhu. Hence, the cenotaph of Sambhaji – Shivaji’s son – is places in Vadhu. Both the villages resonate of solemnity and is a must see attraction. Apart from the Samadhi, a war monument dating back to 1822 was also constructed here. Called a Ranstambh, it was built in memory of the Maratha warriors who lost their lives in the last battle between the British and the Marathas. Tulapur is home to an ancient Shiva Temple called the Sangameshwar Temple. This temple is significant because it is the very site where Sambhaji was killed by the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. This temple usually sees a lot of tourist activity and worshippers flocking the gates during special, auspicious occasions. Both the villages of Vadhu and Tulapur are prominent historic locations that must not be given a miss. Visit these twin villages to get a greater insight into the illustrious history of India.

Valley of Flowers

India /Uttaranchal /Chamoli /Valley of Flowers

A sprawling expanse of 87 square kilometers in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand, Valley of Flowers is set in the backdrop of the majestic Zanskar Ranges. This virtual paradise on earth has been unknown to the outside world till the great Mountaineer Frank S Smith discovered it in the year 1931. Bhyundar valley as the locals named it, the valley of flowers bears a close association with the monkey god Hanuman. It is believed that it was from here that Hanuman brought Sanjivani to the ailing Lakshman. The presence of rare and exotic varities of medicinal herbs in the valley upholds this legendary belief. A world heritage site, the valley is situated at a very remarkable area, which is the conversion point of Himalayan ranges, Zanskar and Western and Eastern Himalayas. This fairyland located in the high altitudes of Himalayas is protected by snowy mountains. Bounded by the magnificent mountain ranges and glittering glaciers, this place unfolds the charisma and charm of nature at its best. Unspoiled by human invasions this imposing land lay iced up in the colder months, and burst into its majestic boom on the arrival of hotter months.
