HistoryEdit

Hornadu is a Hindu holy locale and panchayat village located in Chickmagalur district, Karnataka, India. The deity at the Annapoorneshwari Temple at Hornadu is Annapurneshwari. Every visitor to the Annapoorna temple at Hornadu, irrespective of their religion, language, caste, or creed, is provided with a three-course vegetarian meal (including a dessert made from Dhal or Lentils). Male visitors to the temple have to remove their shirts and banians and preferably cover their shoulders with a towel or a shawl, as a symbol of respect and humility in front of god. The main deity of Annapoorna is made of gold. It is believed that a person who seeks the goddess’ blessings would never have any scarcity for food in life. It is believed that Lord Shiva once had a curse and that this curse was reversed when the lord visited Goddess Annapoorna and sought her blessings. The route to the temple traverses ghats, dense forests and vegetation. A trip to the Hornadu Aadishaktiyatmaka Annapoorneshwari temple would be most fulfilling if all pilgrimage spots en route to the temple are also included in travel plans. Some of the places that will be encountered in that order would be Kukke Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala, Sringeri, Udupi Krishna temple and Kollooru Mookaambike, Kalaseshwara temple in Kalasa, and then the Horanaadu Annapoorneshwari temple.

Kaimur Hills

India /Bihar /Rohtas / Kaimur Hills

Kaimur Hills is a small hill range that runs through the states of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The hills are the eastern side of the Aravalli Range. The hill range is relatively low and the maximum height is only around a few hundred meters. The hills are home to many waterfalls. Some of the main waterfalls in there region are Keoti Falls, Chachai Falls, Tobs Falls, Odda Falls and Devadari Falls amongst a few others. The entire region is an interesting place to visit and can be accessed from the state of Bihar easily. On the Bihar side, one can find many rock paintings and inscriptions in Kaimur Hills. These are prehistoric and this site is a popular tourist destination. Many of the rock paintings are extremely well preserved even today despite of the effects of nature. The paintings date back to the time of the Neolothic settlements in the region. They describe the life of the people during that period. One can see figures that are dancing, walking, running and hunting in these paintings. Many of these paintings resemble ones that have been found in Africa and Europe. Paintings of sun, stars and moon have also been found. The Kaimur region experiences an extreme climate and the conditions vary according to the different seasons. One can experience three main seasons in the place and they are summer, monsoon and winter seasons. Summers are usually harsh and temperatures are extremely high during this period. The monsoon season is extensive and rainfall is not restricted to this time of the year.

HistoryEdit

Tradition of painting on rocks did not last long in European countries whereas in India they became an integral part of life. The overlapping or super imposition effects noticed in the rock paintings of Bihar clearly substantiate that these paintings were done over periods. Like any other traditional art, the rock paintings too happen to be the creations of our female ancestors. After realizing the importance of settled life, human beings settled themselves in caves close to flora and fauna. While the male adults stayed away hunting for food, the females decorated their caves with painting mostly depicting the hunting scenes.
