Kohima

India /Nagaland /Kohima /Kohima

Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland lies smugly shrouded at the eastern frontiers of the mighty Himalayas. The warriors of the Naga Tribes rule this mesmerizing state which is blessed with enchanting combination of natural beauty and ethnic simplicity. Kohima comes across as a laid back city with its leisurely pace of life. However, it is this awesome attitude of the people and the natural blessings showered upon them makes Kohima an ideal place to visit, stay, and enjoy. The city of Kohima was built in by the British as a watch post for the eastern region. This is the very place where the bloody World War-II battle devoured thousands of soldiers. The Commonwealth War Cemetery still remembers these brave hearts. The Nagas and Kukis inhabit and coexist in the region. The tribes have been successful protecting their unique culture and identity. These fiercely independent and self governing tribes are extremely warm and friendly. Their joyful nature, colorful costumes and mystic accessories makes it an amazing experience to interact and become friends with them. Verdant forests provide a perennial green cover to the entire region and make way only to provide some space to their lesser fierce siblings of rhododendrons and multihued orchids. Add a pinch of shopping for handicrafts, ethnic shawls, vests and other decorative and the wish-list of any tourist is complete. Kohima provides a wide choice of Museum, Zoo, Sanctuary, valleys, self governing villages and much more to mesmerize and captivate the visitors. Indian nationals wishing to visit Nagaland are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit from Nagaland House in respective states.
