Panhala

India /Maharashtra /Satara /Panhala

Panhala is a fascinating hill station situated at Kolhapur District in Maharashtra. Placed at an altitude of 3177 ft above sea level, this natural gift offers a breath taking view of the valley below. Panhala is famed for its rich historic heritage, ancient monuments and gallant forts. Panhala is an ideal place for trekking. A charming place with a peaceful, pollution free, and scenic atmosphere, Panhala is a good place to run off from the congestion of the concrete jungles. A major site to be visited here is the Someshwar Tank, which is the after effect of the quarrying of stones for the construction of the majestic Panhala fort. It makes oneself astonished to see a secret well on the top of a three-storied structure. Both the tank and the well show excellence in engineering and are quite remarkable. Panhala is not a typical Indian hill station; it is a clear example for the saying ‘small is beautiful’. A tiny hill station which dashes out all preconceived notions of a conventional Indian hill station. Its small size and strategic location made it a favorite place of various dynasties. But it gained its significance under the reign of Sivaji. Bounded within the four walls of a mighty fort, Panhala stands as a unique hill station. The yet to be explored hill station does not offer any of the conventional activities of a similar picnic spot. It is, however, a perfect place to relax.
