Samastipur is a city that is located in the state of in the Samastipur district. The city is situated on the banks of the Ganges River. The town is known for its festivals and one can witness a host of these festivals through the year. Some of the main ones are the Chathh, Durga Pooja, Hanuman Jayanthi, Eid and Muharram. One of the main temples in the place is the Thaneshwar Temple that is located in the center of the city. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The archaeological survey has proved that the evidence of different cultures is available in this area. The excavations were carried out in different parts of the district, i.e. Ambakheri, Bargaon, Hulas, Bhadarabad and Naseerpur etc. It is also established that in Saharanpur district, the earliest habitants were found as early as 2000B.C. Traces of Indus Valley civilization and even earlier are available and now it can be definitely established that this region is connected with Indus valley civilization. Ambakheri, Bargaon, Naseerpur and Hulas were the centres of Harappan culture.
During the region of Iltutmish Saharanpur became a part of the Slave Dynasty. Muhammad Tughlak reached northern Doab to crush the rebellion of Shiwalik Kings in 1340. There he came to know about the presence of a Sufi saint on the banks of `Paondhoi` river. He went to see him there and ordered that henceforth the place should be known as `Shah-Harunpur` by the name of Saint Shah Harun Chisti.

Orang National Park is situated on the banks of the River Brahmaputra. It is located in the Sonitpur and Darrang districts of the state of. The park is said to resemble the National Park and it is home to the Great Indian Rhinocerous. The park has a wide variety of fauna and flora. Some of the animals that can be seen in the park are the pygmy hogs, civets, porcupines, macaques, leopards, Indian pangolins, water buffalos and elephants. It is possible to travel around the sanctuary through the safaris that are arranged by the forest department. Jeeps safaris are a popular tourist activity in the national park. One can also visit the villages that are located in the fringes of the sanctuary. The months of December, January and February constitute the winter season. The maximum temperature that you can expect during the winter season is around 12 degrees Celsius. Heavy woolen clothing is required if you are traveling during this period. December and January months form the peak winter season.

Muzaffarpur is a large city that is located near the Himalayan foothills. The town is famous for its Litchi farms and many people from all over the country travel to the place to sample the delicious fruits. Muzaffarpur is a relatively old city and there are a few places of interest in this region. The region has been ruled by different dynasties and rulers since the 6th century. There are a few temples that you can visit in the town and some of the main ones are the Kali Temple, the Rajeshwari Devi Mandhir and the Baba, which is a shrine that is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
