The Sri Sai Baba Temple which is located in region is one of the oldest temples in India. Napane Waterfall is another interesting place to visit.

Sindhudurg, Shivaji built this ocean fort in 1664 AD on a low rocky 48-acre island off the Malvan coast. Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg are twin forts from the days of Shivaji’s time that is a historic place with its serene coastal beauty. It is believed that Shivaji personally selected the site for the construction of the fort. For casting and the foundation stones, over 2,000 khandis (4,000 mounds) of iron and lead were used to it lay down firmly. There is a temple dedicated to Shivaji inside the fort. This is the only shrine of its kind in the country, which was built by his son Rajaram. Other temples dedicated to Hindu deities renowned in the Maratha pantheon (as Maruti, Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimai, Mahapurush, etc) lie within the limits of the fort. The Vijaydurg or ‘Victory Fort’ and the Padamgarh Fort are other attractions in the vicinity.

Sonda is a small village that is located in the Uttara Kannada District in the State of Karnataka. Sonda was the capital of the Sondhe Kings and it is located around 30 km from the town of Sirsi. Sonda is an up and coming tourist destination and there are a few interesting places that a tourist can visit in and around the village. Sonda is home to many Matts and temples. Some of the famous Matts that can be seen around the village are the Akalank Matt, and the Vadiraj Matt. These were established during the period of Arasappa Nayaka the Second.Sonda also has an interesting fort that is among the popular tourist destinations in the village. Some of the other places of interest in the village of Sonda are Mahanithi Matt,,, and Vyasaraya Matt Hulekal, Venkatamrama Temple Muttikanere and a few other interesting archeological sites. The temple complexes are set in a peaceful surrounding with many gardens. Most of the surrounding areas are green and are a sight for sore eyes.Sonda Fort is home to many small ancient cannons and is an excellent place to unwind. The architecture of the temples and Matts are is also interesting.

By Air : Hubli Airport is the closest airport to Sonda. It is located around 130 from the village of Sonda. For those who are travelling by air this is a good option. There are frequent taxis services that be availed from the city of Hubli to Sonda. Taxis charge around Rs 1500 for the trip.

By Train : The nearest railway station is located at Kumta. This is situated around 70 km from the town. Hubli is the nearest major railway station that is located near Sonda. There are taxis that are available from outside the Hubli Station. Taxis at the Kumta Station may not be reliable and are not a good option. Auto rickshaws may be available from the Kumta Railway Station.

By BUS : KSRTC buses connect the town of Sirsi to the rest of the State as well Maharashtra. From Sirsi travelers can hire a taxi to the village of Sonda. Buses are also available from Bangalore to Sirsi. They cost around Rs 400 and the distance is approximately 425 km from Bangalore. The trip takes around 10 hours. There are KSRTC buses that are available from Hubli as well.

HistoryEdit

Srikakulam is a town, municipality and headquarters of Srikakulam district in the north-eastern Andhra Pradesh, India. With the same name there is a “Srikakulam Assembly constituency” and a “Srikakulam Parliament Constituency'”. Srikakulam-municipality. Srikakulam was formerly called as Gulshanabad (Garden city) during Muslim rule and was headquarter of Muslim fauzdars. It was renamed as Chicacole by British colonial rulers and after independence, it was renamed as Srikakulam. Historically, Srikakulam is a part of Kalinga kingdom which was ruled by the kings of Eastern Ganga Dynasty for more than 800 years from 6th to 14th Centuries A.D. During the early centuries and even before Christ Buddhism flourished here and the excavations of Salihundam, Jagathimetta and Danthapuri reveal that the people enjoyed rich cultural life and that they were peace loving.

By Air : The nearest airport to Srikakulam is located 106 kilometers away at Vishakapatnam. Air fares may range from Rs 2000-5000 Rs to all major Indian cities, and cabs or buses can be taken from Vishakapatnam to Srikakulam. Cab charges to Srikakulam will be around Rs 1500 to 2000.

By Train : Srikakulam Town has a major railway station which plays a prominent part of in the Howrah-Chennai broad gauge line. Trains are thus available to all places including Kolkata, Chennai and Vishakapatnam. Train fares will range around Rs 150 to 600, depending on the type of travel. Trains are cheaper than buses, but tickets need to be booked in advance.

By BUS : ou can travel by bus to Srikakulam as both private and public operators provide regular buses to Srikakulam from all major and minor cities in the state. Buses to Srikakulam run from Vijayawada, and Vishakhapatnam. Buses from Hyderabad are also available, and constant buses to Srikakulam are available from Bangalore also. Bus fares can range from Rs 200 to 1000, depending on the distance covered, as Bangalore and Hyderabad are quite far away.
