Manakula Vinayagar Temple one of the most ancient temples in Pondicherry, its origin dates back to centuries ago, even before the French settlement. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple is a must visit for anyone visiting Pondicherry. The temple took its name from Tamil words Manal meaning sand and Kulam which stands for pond near the sea. Initially, the temple premises were full of sand around the ponds and hence the name. Earlier, the temple was known as Bhuvaneshar Ganapathy as it is devoted to one of 16 forms of Lord Ganesha. Apart from the regular festivals, the temple also celebrates Brahmothsavam, which is the largest festival dedicated to Lord Manakula Vinayagar every year during the months of August and September. The 24-day festival draws a lot of visitors who want to celebrate this festival with much pomp and grandeur.

Raj Niwas is known as the ‘Palais du Gouvernement’, which was built during 18th century. It is now the residence of the Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, which is open to common public. Founded by Mirra Alfassa, who is more popularly known as The Mother, Auroville City was initiated as a project of Sri Aurobindo Society in the year 1968. The idea behind the setting up of this city was to create a universal space where men and women of all nationalities and cultures could live in harmony, thereby realizing harmony and progress. Auroville City comprises of different zones such as the Peace Area, Industrial Zone, Residential Zone, International Zone, Cultural Zone and Green Belt. The chief attraction of the city is Matrimandir which draws visitors with its architectural grandeur. Auro Beach is also located in proximity to the city and serves as an excellent unwinding spot to travelers and tourists.
