Hyderabad Public Gardens also known as Bagh-e-Aam is the most popular and the most frequented garden in the city. Hyderabad Public Gardens, one among the biggest parks of Hyderabad, holds a prominent place among other gardens in the city. It is famous not only for the beautiful landscaping of gardens, lawns and pathways but also for the prestigious institutions situated within.Hyderabad Public Gardens is an important landmark of Hyderabad as it encloses the State Legislature, Andhra Pradesh State Archaeological Museum, Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Indira Gandhi Auditorium and Telugu Lalita Kala Thoranam, an outdoor theatre. Art lovers visiting the city often pay a visit to the State Archaeological Museum within the Public Gardens. This archaeological museum is considered to be one among the richest repositories of antiques and art objects in India. It was built in 1920 in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture by Nizam VII.Another important building situated within the Public Gardens is the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Assembly was inaugurated in 1985 by the then Prime Minister of India, late Sri Rajiv Gandhi. It has added a huge statue of Mahatma Gandhi, sitting in a praying posture, in the Garden.The Public Gardens also consists of a Health Museum, Contemporary Art Museum and a children’s park. The outdoor theatre called Lalitha Kala Thoranam is the venue for film festivals, fashion shows and beauty pageants. It has an ancient mosque and the office of the Department of Horticulture in its premises.

Hyderabad city boasts some of the finest gardens in the country. One of the city’s oldest and largest garden is located in the centre of the city. It was built in the year 1846 by Nizam Government. No wonder then that it is one of the most frequented spots for school picnics. This beautifully laid out garden also houses two museums the A P State Archaelogical Museum and the Health Museum, a park where kids can play, a mini school (Jawahar Bal Bhavan) for children to learn fine arts, and an auditorium (the Indira Gandhi Auditorium). The Jubilee Hall, the Lalitha Kala Thoranam (an open-air theater which is a venue for many film festivals, fashion shows and beauty pageants), the building of the Department of Horticulture and a mosque are the other fascinating places in the premises.
Beside this garden the beautiful white structure is the Andhra Pradesh Assembly building with green lawns. In 1985 a New Legislative Assembly hall was inagurated by the then Prime Minister of India Late Sri. Rajiv Gandhi.Recently the government has added a huge statue of Mahatma Gandhi sitting in the praying posture looks peaceful for all. The statue adds to the beauty of the park.

Health Museum is located in Hyderabad near Public Gardens. As you enter this museum you can find the words of Jawaharlal Nehru which are displayed at the entrance of the museum. The words and the museum are 50 years old. It started in 1948 and since then there were no add-ons, no deductions, no updating or divisions in the museum. Therefore, the museum still bears the same ancient look of the late 40s. The museum is as old as India and, therefore, symbolizes the era. It symbolizes the poverty.

Droog Fort, at an elevation of 6000 feet from sea level. The site is in fact the ruins of a dilapidated fort built by Tipu Sultan. A crumbling wall stands as a remainder of the once proud fortress. There is a watch tower at the top from where one can get breathtaking views of the misty surroundings. Birdwatchers can have a good time as a lot of rare species of birds populate the area. One has to trek for almost 3 kilometres through tea estates and shrubs to reach the summit. Vehicles can go only upto Tantea estate after which it is a steep climb upwards. The trek may prove a bit difficult for elders and children. Catherine Falls, Lamb’s Rock, Sim’s Park, Law’s Falls, Dolphin’s Nose, Katary Falls, Wellington’s Golf Course and St. George’s church are other famous tourist points near the fort.

Taxi : Ooty is well connected by a road network and national highways 67. The tourist can reach to Ooty by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

Bus : Ooty is well connected with all most all south Indian cities by bus. There are regular bus services from Mysore (Rs 300), Bangalore (Rs 600), Chennai (Rs 650) and also from many cities in Kerala. State owned and private vehicles ply on this route. Many tourist services providers offer package trips to Ooty from many south Indian cities. These will charge about Rs 4 per km.

Train : The hill station of Ooty has a railway station of its own. It is called the Udhagamandalam railway station and can be reached by The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (a.k.a. Toy Train) from Mettupalayam which is 47 km away from Ooty, is the nearest major railway station. There are regular train services from Coimbatore and Chennai to Mettupalayam. Mettupalayam and Conoor are connected to Ooty with toy trains. Taxis are available from Mettupalayam to Ooty and fare is about Rs 1,000. Udhagamandalam railway station: 0423-2442246.

Air : There is no airport in ooty. Coimbatore airport is the nearest airport and is around 105 km from Ooty. A number of private airlines give provide services to Coimbatore.
