Charminar, Hyderabad. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

The Charminar gets its name from the four minarets (towers) standing in the four corners of the structure. These graceful and intricate minarets, rise to 48.7 metres from the ground, overlooking the landscape of the area. The Charminar is square structured and its minarets have four levels. All these storeys look like rings, which have been ornately shaped around the minaret. The gallery on its first floor offer a great view of the surrounding areas. There is a mosque at the topmost storey of the Charminar, which faces Mecca, the holy pilgrimage of the Muslims. Each side of the Charminar opens into a court through imposing arches which face all four directions, respectively. The arches are 11 metres broad and go up to 20 metres high from the base. Char minar is most famous Historical place of Hyderabad and Andhra pradesh. We can say there is equal importance of Charminar as Taj mahal in agra and eiffel tower in parries. Even Charminar is included in top 10 historical places of India. It’s English name which is four towers, is a translation of two words “char” and “minar”.

Golconda Fort

India /Telangana /Hyderabad /Hyderabad

Golkonda Fort is situated 11 km west of Hyderabad, Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad . Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Golconda, also known as Golkonda or Golla konda (“shepherd’s hill”), a ruined fort of Southern India and capital of medieval Golconda Sultanate (c.1518–1687), One of the most remarkable features of Golconda is its system of acoustics- a hand clap at a certain point below the dome at the entrance reverberates and can be heard clearly at the ‘Bala Hissar’, the highest point almost a kilometre away, palaces, factories, water supply system and the famous ‘Rahban’ cannon, that was used during the last seize of Golconda by Aurangazeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell. There is also supposed to be secret underground tunnel leading from the ‘Durbar Hall’ to one of the palaces at the foot of the hill. The tombs of the Qutub Shahi kings, built with Islamic architecture lie about 1-km north of the outer wall of Golconda. These graceful structures are surrounded by landscaped gardens, and a number of them have beautifully carved stonework. Outside the Golconda Fort are two separate pavilions built on a rocky eminence – the ‘Taramathi Gana Mandir’ and the ‘Premathi Nritya Mandir’ from where the legendary sisters ‘Taramathi’ and ‘Premamathi’ resided. They gave their performance on a circular dais atop a two-storied structure, the ‘Kala Mandir’, which was visible from the king’s durbar (king’s court) on top of the Golconda Fort.THE SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW : A new attraction at the fort is a sound and light show that brings the legend of Golconda to life. With a spectacular interplay of audio and visual effects, the story of Golconda unfolds over centuries of splendour. The show livens up the glorious past and it is an experience worth watching. The show is presented in English, Hindi and Telugu.

Golconda Fort, Hyderabad

Golconda Fort, Hyderabad

HistoryEdit

Golkonda fort
was first built in the 13th century during the Kakatiya dynasty. It was built as a mud fort then. It was in the 16th century under the Qutb Shahi dynasty that it was fortified and a 7 km long outer wall made of granite was built. Golkonda was also a major centre for diamond trade in those days. The Qutb Shahi dynasty controlled the areas of the current East Godavari district. Where the famous Kollur mines were located. It was from here that the most of the biggest diamonds in the world came from. These included the Kohinoor, Darya-e-noor, Regent ‘n Hope diamonds. Before the city of Hyderabad was founded the Deccan was ruled from Golconda fort. Founded originally by the Kakatiya’s in the 13th century the existing structure was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort with granite walls and ramparts extending some 5-km in circumference. The first three Qutub Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda, over a span of 62 years.

Qutub Shahi Tombs

India /Telangana /Hyderabad /Hyderabad

Qutub Shahi Tombs Fort Rd, Toli Chowki, Hyderabad. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Qutub Shahi Tombs, the tombs of 7 Qutub Shahi rulers, is situated about 850 meters away from the Banjara Darwaza of Golconda Fort. These tombs are constructed by grey granite, on an elevated square platform. These tombs are dome-structured and have a quadrangular shape. Each of these tombs is at a height of about 9 – 15 meters from the platform and is surrounded by pointed arches. There are small tombs as well as large tombs among Qutub Shahi Tombs. The smaller tombs have single storey and larger tombs have double storey. The stucco ornamentation of Qutub Shahi Tombs can be seen even today but the blue and green tiles, which covered the domes of these tombs, were destroyed with the passage of time. The largest of all Qutub Shahi Tombs is the tomb of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah, the fifth king of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. This tomb reaching up to a height of about 42 meters has 28 open arches, a large dome and minarets at its corners. The tombs of Qutub Shahis were once decorated with carpets and chandeliers. Golden spires were used to distinguish the tombs of Sultans from those of nobles and all tombs were given velvet canopies on silver poles. The verses from the Holy Book of Quran were recited in regular intervals. It is said that the criminals who seek shelter in this place were forgiven by the Qutub Shahis. Qutub Shahi Tombs are surrounded by a garden named Ibrahim Bagh that contain ponds and planted pathways. This garden is a popular picnic spot in Hyderabad.

HistoryEdit
