The Kedareshwar temple is located in the south-eastern curve of Kushavarta region of Trimbakeshwar. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who presides over here in the form of Kedareshwar Mahadev.According to the legends, in this spot, Sage Gautama was saved by Lord Shiva from the sin of killing a cow. The architectural structure of this temple is quite similar to the ancient style of the Hindu caves. Two nearby attractions to visit from this place are Kankhala Tirtha and Kanchan Tirtha.

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the ninth national park in Nepal and is located in the country’s mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and named after Shivapuri Peak of 2,732 m (8,963 ft) altitude. It covers an area of 159 km2 (61 sq mi) in the districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk, adjoining 23 Village Development Committees. In the west, the protected area extends to the Dhading District. Shivapuri is the second highest peak among the hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. It is 2732m at its peak with numerous sharp ridges radiating to all sides. Shivapuri was proclaimed as a watershed area supplying more than a million liters of natural spring water to the city.

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the ninth national park in Nepal and was established in 2002. After Shivapuri experienced several problems concerning soil erosion as a result of deforestation, over- grazing, cultivation on steep slopes etc.; reducing the quality and quantity of the water supplied, His Majesty’s Govt. of Nepal initiated a program to protect Shivapuri and its adjoining areas as a watershed and wildlife reserve in 1975. As recently as, in mid 2002 Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve was officially given a National Park status.

Budhanilkantha north of Kathmandu lies a 5 meter tall sleeping Vishnu (Jalasayana, he who sleeps on the waves) in the middle of a small pond. The sculpture from the 5th century represents Vishnu’s sleeping in the cosmic ocean while resting on Ananta Sesa the thousend headed snake. Vishnu is lying with in his four hands the typical Vishnu symbols like the on the picture clearly visible discus (chakra), left of Vishnu’s head. The chakra is Vishnu’s main weapon to fight demons.

The Samadhi of the Sant Nivrutti Nath is also located here. Nivrutti Nath was the initiator of the Nath sect and was the elder brother of the noble saint Gyandev. As per the legends, just after the Samadhi of Gyandev, Nivrutti Nath left with his sister for a pilgrimage. On their way, they met with a natural disaster of thunderstorms, in which Nivrutti Nath lost his sister. After this, at Trimbakeshwar, Nivrutti Nath attained Samadhi. On the place of Nivrutti Nath’s Samadhi, a temple has been erected later on that is visited by numerous devotees.

Brahmagiri hills is the origine of River Godavari, the hill is considered the giri or hill of Lord Brahma. It is also said that this hill was inhabited by sage Gautam and Ahalya, his wife. Saint Gautam brought the River Godavari to this hill, by praying to Lord Shiva. The Brahmagiri hills with its rugged terrain are not only attractive to pilgrims but also nature and adventure lovers.
Parikrama: On third Monday of holy Shravan many devotees undertake parikrama (circumnavigation) of the Brahmagiri Hill. More than 3.5 lacs devotees walk a distance of 30 km in about 6 to 7 hours. Many devotees also perform a 12 km parikrama through different route of Brahmagiri hill in 12 to 13 hours.

Ganngdwar is situated in right of the middle of Brahmagiri Mountain. There is a temple of Ganga, now known as Godavari River. Ganga appears first time here, after it vanishes from Brahmagiri Mountain. Gangadwar is one of the five tirthas. At Gangadwar there is a shrine of Goddess Ganga and the river is seen to appear from the mouth of Nandi. Coming down few steps from Gangadwar, one will reach the caves of Gorakhnath is also situated at this place. Close to this spot, there is another temple of the Kolambika Devi along with a group of 108 Shivalinga.

Trimbakeshwar to Ram Lakshman Tirtha

River Godavari originates from the Brahmagiri Hills from where it flows to a spot called Gangadwar, which means the passage or way of Ganga. This name is drawn from the legends related to Ganga and Brahmagiri Hills. To reach Gangadwar, tourists have to climb approximately 750 steps. They were built by Sheth Karamasi Hansraj of Kutch, Gujarat. The work was commenced in 1907 and was completed in 1918. Sheth Hansraj also built road for the visitors.
