Detail InformationEdit

Be a guest at the castle, next to such a people as Beethoven, king Jan Kazimierz or Adam Urban Waleczny. The exact date of founding the castle is unknown. Due to the archaeological works it is known that between XIII and XIV century there was a fortress of Piasts of Opole. In 1562, Jan Oppersdorff leased the town and within 10 years he built a magnificent residence in renaissance style, partially preserved up till now. Next owner of the castle Jan Jerzy II enlarged the building by adding, for example, 4 towers that made the castle look as a defensive one. He also raised a prison tower adjusted to walls and closing the town centre. Next phase of enlarging the object was under the reign of Jan Jerzy III who added an eastern flank of, so called, lower castle; in this way he closed the object creating a kind of square. At present , the castle is badly damaged. It is not known how the interior looked like during reign of the richest kin of Oppensdorff, but it is known that when Jan Jerzy III was in charge, it already was a magnificent residence.
