Detail InformationEdit

The castle of Dewin – Biberstein family is situated in the north – western part of the town, close to the main square. This is a huge building from the 2nd half of the 13th century. It was built from the initiative of the knights’ family Dewin that came from Bohemia. Originally, the castle was gothic, without the tower. In 1355 it was presented as dowry to the family Biberstein. In the 16th century (around 1540) it was remodeled into the renaissance form. In 1558 Baltasar Promnitz bought the castle. His beneficiaries built in 1710-1726 a new baroque residence – the palace of the Promnitz family. From 1824 the castle served as a prison. In 1930, the Regional Museum was founded here. Presently the castle is in ruin and may bee seen from outside. It is however systematically conserved and renovated.
