The ancient city of Carthage is renowned for its rich historical past. The city has effectively been ruled by the Phoenicians, Punics and Romans. Numerous ruins including Roman Amphitheatre, Cathedrals, Museums and cisterns dating back to several centuries are scattered across the city. The Roman amphitheatre dating back to 2nc century is one of the major tourist attractions in Carthage. The five storied structure had seating capacity of 50,000 was used for watching the performances of naumachias.
The Archaeological Park in Carthage is another important historical site featuring ancient remains of Roman cisterns, Punic graves, secret meeting places or Schola and Basilica of Douimes. Baths of Antonius Pius spread on 4.5 acres is one of the largest Roman baths in the World. Besides this, other important tourist attractions in Carthage include Byrsa Hill, Cathedral of St. Louis and National Archaeological Museum.
