Strategically located at the crossroads of the mid-Atlantic sea and air routes, Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 beautiful islands, 570 kilometers off the coast of Western Africa. With a combined area over 4,000 square kilometers, Cape Verde served as an important location in the slave trade of a historic past. Discovered and colonized by the Portuguese, these islands were uninhabited before the 15th century. Featuring a service oriented economy which is focused around tourism at present, Cape Verde largely benefits from a warm climate within the islands prevailing throughout the year.
Tough economic time after independence pushed a majority of Cape Verdean population to migrate to Europe and Americas during the last few decades. However, these immigrant communities have largely contributed to a gradual recovery which has put back the Cape Verde economy on track. Praised as an example of stability, development and growth amongst the African nations, Cape Verde is a success story despite its lack of natural resources.
