Canal Street may be a major route within the town of recent Orleans. Forming the upstream boundary of the city’s oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter (Vieux Carré), it acted because the contrast between the older French/Spanish Colonial-era town and therefore the newer yankee Sector, today’s Central downtown. Up till the first 1800s, it had been the French and Spanish UN agency lived within the French Quarter. The road has 3 lanes of traffic in each directions, with a combine of tram tracks within the center. Canal Street’s downtown phase is the hub of the city’s mass transit system, with varied tram and transit line terminals.
