Pipe of peace town (commonly stated regionally as “Cal City”) was supported in 1892 once the villages of Schrumville and Sobieski Park unified below the name of West Hammond, since it lies on the side of the Illinois-Indiana border from Hammond, Indiana. In 1924, West Hammond formally modified its name to pipe of peace town.
