Detail InformationEdit
The Burnside Fountain may be a non-functioning fountain at the southeast corner of Worcester Common in Worcester, Massachusetts. It consists of 2 elements, a pink granite basin, and a bronze statue of a young boy riding a turtle. The basin was designed by creator Henry Bacon, WHO later designed the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and therefore the figure was created by sculptor Charles Y. Harvey. The bronze is formally named Boy with a Turtle however is understood to locals as Turtle Boy. Turtle Boy has become Associate in Nursing unofficial organism for Worcester, abundant within the same means the Manneken Pis is for Belgian capital. The Burnside Fountain’s quality springs largely from viewers’ incorrect interpretation of the sculpture as being a brutish act between the boy and therefore the turtle. Over its one hundred year existence, it’s been documented in stories and songs, similarly as having a music contest and a microbrew named once it.The Burnside Fountain is twelve feet (3.7 m) wide, 5 feet (1.5 m) tall, and consists of 2 elements, the basin and therefore the sculpture. The pink granite basin is rectangular and has four giant bowls, 2 on either finish, graven into its prime. These bowls were originally designed as water troughs for horses, and a smaller, lower, bowl set on the rear of the fountain was designed for dogs.
