Detail InformationEdit

The Harchheim castle ruins – better known as “Burgstall Ruins” – are situated right in the heart of the “Kößlbachtal” nature preserve.
Burgstall was erected at the beginning of the 13th century. It is located on a majestic rock towering high above the Kößlbach brook. From 1536 onwards the castle was used as a prison for debtors and other offenders. Later on Burgstall fell into ruins and the seat of the regional court was transferred to St. Aegidi. At the end of the 16th century the castle ruins were removed and used as the foundations of Pankrazkirche church. Only in 1765 Austria and the Passau Convent made peace by signing the national treaty.
