Detail InformationEdit

The ruins of Waxenberg is above the center of the community in Waxenberg Oberneukirchen Mühlviertel in Upper Austria. Today’s ruins were built before 1300 and burned down in 1756 after being struck by lightning. The ruin is in possession of the family Starhemberg and renovated since the 1950s by the cultural association Waxenberg.
The main castle was an area of 885 square meters, the bailey included 1260 square feet. Of the plant is essentially only the 30-meter high, round keep preserved and can be climbed. The keep dates from the 15th Century and has a diameter of 10 meters with a wall thickness of 3 meters. The lightning strike of 1756 spared the tower, the bailey has disappeared almost completely. The palas only vestiges to be seen.
Towards the castle still stands a battery tower from the 16th Century. The battery tower had large windows to the defense and was below the forecastle. The square tower is now open at the top and was formerly covered with a tent roof.
