Throwing stones is a ruined castle in Upper Austria. It stands on the Danube in the village in the municipality of Struden St. Nikola an der Donau.
The castle was built at a strategically important location. Their fortifications were also on the opposite island of Woerth. If necessary, let the block for the Danube waterway by chains stretched between two plants were. Downstream, there were other, similar types of equipment.
The castle was first documented mention in 1242. Stone throwing was the property of the Prince and was between 13 and 15 Century pledged repeatedly to different owners. End of the 15th Century, the castle was abandoned after the last residents in the newly built Greinburg were moved. 1645 burned down the already crumbling castle. 1780, the palace because of the danger of collapse and the threat of a nearby street was torn down. 1907 Jorg Lanz von Liebenfels bought the ruins and built it from the “Teutonic castle” of his nationalist-esoteric Neutempler Order. In 1963 the castle was sold again and removed by a doctor in Linz for private retirement residence. After his death in the late 1990s, the property again changed hands. From the Medieval Castle buildings, only the ramparts and the tower remain.
The castle is on the Danube and the Danube cycle path visible, since 2010, the Danube path by the Danube round castle stone throwing.
