Bundi is a city in the Hadoti region of the state of Rajasthan. This quaint little city is fast becoming a well-liked tourist attraction owing to the fact that it is representative of the culture prevalent in Rajasthan. It is of great architectural importance since this small city is dotted with ornate forts, splendid palaces, and step well tanks also known as baoris in the local dialect. Bundi city is the administrative capital of Bundi District. In the olden times, the area in and around the city of Bundi was actually inhabited by different local tribes. The Parihar Meenas were famous amongst all the tribes. Bundi is believed to have derived its name from a previous Meena ruler known as Bunda Meena. Bunda-Ka-Nal was the name given to this city previously. The word Nal means “narrow ways”. Bundi is a small city in the state of Rajasthan and hence, has not joined the league of the metropolis in India as of yet. As a result, Bundi has retained its traditional charm. The locals living in this quaint city are old fashioned and follow the customs and rituals typical to the state of Rajasthan.

Bundi is one of most popular tourist places in Rajasthan. The rich history of Bundi is a great attraction for tourists. It has a number of historical structures that reflect the rich history of the place. There are a number of monuments that are manifestation of the glory and splendor of the ester years of Rajasthan. These monuments not only have a historical significance. The magnificent architecture is also a treat to the eye. There are also a number of palaces in Bundi. The walls of these palaces have a number of life size frescoes. These are also a major draw for the tourists.The history of Bundi dates back to time of the Hada Rajputs. This is evitable from the name of the region where Bundi is located. It is known by the name of Hadoti. The place was previously inhabited by the local tribes. The Meenas were the dominant tribes in this part. According to history, Bundi derived its name from Bunda Meena, a former Meena king. However, in the 12th century, it came under the rule of Chauhan rulers. Soon after, the Chauhan transformed it into their center of power.

By Air : There is no airport at Bundi.The nearest airport to Bundi is the Sanganer Airport located at Jaipur, which is about 215 km from Bundi. Airport to Bundi city in taxi costs about Rs 2500. By Train : Kota Railway Station is the nearest railway station to the city. It is at a distance of 35 kilometres. Various trains play between Kota railway station and other railway stations of major Indian cities. One can take taxi or bus to reach Kota railway station.

By BUS : Bundi main bus stand is 1 km north of the railway station. Bundi is well connected by road on the National Highway 12 to Ajmer (5 hours), Kota (1 hour), Udaipur (9 hours) and Jaipur (5 hours). Auto-rickshaws, taxis and bikes on hire are available to reach Bundi town from the bus stand.
