Budgam is located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Budgam is a very important tourist destination in the region, and it is well known for its splendid natural beauty. Nilnag is a very beautiful lake that derives its name from its color (as Nil means Blue in the local tongue). This lake is surrounded by forests on all sides, and many families travel to this lake from the nearby regions in order to picnic near the lake. You can also go trout fishing in the streams of Dood Ganga during your trip to Budgam. There are many springs present in the region too, and these can be visited as well. Some of the famous springs are Nara Nag, Sut Haran, Pushkar Nag and Gandhak Nag. The region of Budgam experiences a temperate climate throughout the year, with mild summers and cold winters. The best time to visit the town of Budgam would be during the summer months, as the weather during this time will be pleasant. Winters in the town of Budgam will be cold, and the monsoon season will bring along moderate rainfall.

HistoryEdit

Budgam was a fraction of district Baramulla, when Srinagar itself was a constituent of the Anantnag district. Then it was known as tehsil Sri Pratap. Historical record proposes that Budgam was also referred to as Pargana Deesu. According to a well-known chronicler, Khawaja Azam Demari, the region was also known as Deedmarbag.

By Air : Nearest Airport is Srinagar Airport is an international airport, named Sheikh ul Alam Airport. This airport is well connected and airlines offer regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Srinagar International Airport: 0194 230 3000.

By Train : Trains can’t be taken to Srinagar, as the nearest railway station to Srinagar is present only in Jammu. You will have a few buses that run from Jammu to Budgam, and these can be availed. Trains to the town of Jammu will be available from many destinations including Trivandrum, Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi.

By BUS : Buses can be taken to the main bus stand in Srinagar, from where buses to Budgam will be available in plenty. There are many service providers that run to the town of Srinagar from the nearby cities of Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu, Phalgan and Leh. Both government run buses and private buses run to Srinagar

By Taxi : Budgam is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Budgam by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.
