The Britton bungalow was the residence of Nathaniel Lord Britton, a life scientist and therefore the creator of the the big apple installation. The house was originally placed at the intersection of recent Dorp Lane and Cedar Grove Avenue within the New Dorp Beach section of Staten Island, New York.
The oldest section of the bungalow dates to 1671, with additions within the mid-18th century. It’s made of stone and timberframe parts. Dr. Britton deeded the house to the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences in 1915. The bungalow was affected to Historic Richmondtown in 1967 from its former location on New Dorp Lane.
