Brienne-le-Château is a commune in the Aube department in north-central France. It is located 1 mile (2 km) from the right bank of the Aube River and 26 m. northeast of Troyes. Napoleon Bonaparte was a resident of the town from 1779 to 1784 while he was studying at the military school suppressed in 1790. In 1814, it was the site of the Battle of Brienne, when the Sixth Coalition invaded France.
