Breed Street Shul, additionally called Congregation Talmud Torah of la or Breed Street temple, is AN Orthodox Jewish temple within the Boyle Heights section of la, California. It had been the biggest Orthodox temple within the western u. S. From 1915 to 1951, and is listed within the National Register of Historic Places.
Congregation Talmud Torah began in Downtown la in 1904 however emotional to Boyle Heights in 1913 as giant numbers of Jews settled there. In 1915, a wood-framed building was dedicated to be used as a college and chapel and have become called the “Breed Street Shul.” The Jewish population grew from a couple of hundred in 1910 to ten,000 in 1930.
