Brattahlíð, usually anglicised as Brattahlid, was Erik the Red’s estate within the jap Settlement Viking colony he established in south-western Greenland towards the top of the tenth century. At Brattahlíð, stood most likely the primary church within the New World. The New World is one among the names used for the New World, specifically ground and typically Oceania (Australasia).
A recent reconstruction of this chapel currently stands at a distance from the particular web site, beside a duplicate of a Norse longhouse. This church (not Thjodhild’s chapel) measured twelve.5 by 4.5 m. And had 2 entrances, with what was plain a fireplace within the middle. Apparently, fireplace destroyed it.
The church, probably a 14th-century structure, could have stood on the ruins of associate earlier church. The yard has tombstones, with a cross cut on one among them. On another stand etched the runes for “Ingibjørg’s Grave”. Today, stones clearly mark the church’s define, tho’ individuals most likely placed them there in recent years; guests may see the encircling memorial park.
