Brahmeswara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the main shrine has been inspired by the Tantric cult. Through a gateway, where a cloth covered image of Goddess Laxmi is kept, devotees can enter the temple. On the western facade is located figure of Chamunda standing on a corpse with a trident and human head. the temple has a Jagamohana that has a carved interior. Made using iron beams, the temple has been adorned with figures of the musicians and dancers, the lion-head motif, as well as amusing and erotic figures.

HistoryEdit

Brahmeswara Temple was built by Queen Kolavati, who was the mother of the Somavasani King, in 1061. Three broad styles as rekha, pidha and khakhara compose the architectural design of the temple. Sanctum, with a convex curvilinear spire, locally known as the deul, also called bada deul (the big temple) or the rekha deul, adorn the temple. Depicting typical Orissan style of architecture, Four shrines of this 11th century temple are located at each corner.

Taxi : This place is well connected by road and is easily accessible by taxis. Taxis are also available from Bhubaneshwar charging anywhere from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.

Bus : The New Bus Stand which is located at a distance of 6 km from the town center connects well to the major cities around Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar is connected to Puri (56 km) and Konark (36 km by regular bus services.

Train : Bhubaneswar railway station is about 6 km away from the city center. This railhead is well-connected to the metro cities and also to the cities Delhi (Bbs Duronto Exp), Kolkata (Falaknuma Exp), Hyderabad (Konark Express), Chennai (Coromandal Exp), Mumbai (Puri Ltt Sf Exp) and Bangalore (Bbs Ypr Sup Exp).

Air : Biju Patnaik airport at Bhubaneswar is nearly 5 km away from the heart of the city. It costs about Rs 100 by taxi cab. The airport is connected to Delhi and Mumbai. International travelers need to get connections through Delhi.
