The Bouwerie Lane Theatre may be a former deposit that became AN city district Theatre, set at 330 Bowery at Bond Street in Manhattan, big apple town. It’s set within the NoHo Historic District. The robust building, that was created from 1873-1874, was designed by Henry Engelbert within the Italianate vogue for the Atlantic Savings Bank, that became the Bond Street Saving Bank before the building was completed.When the bank unsuccessful in 1879, the building was oversubscribed to the German Exchange Bank, that served the German migrant community. Before the Nineteen Sixties, the building was used for the storage of materials. Then in 1963, the building was born-again into a theater by Honey Waldman, United Nations agency made many plays there. From 1974 to 2006, it had been the house of the Cocteau Repertory Theatre.Among the various plays and musicals that were made at the theatre, the primary was The Immoralist (1963) with Frank Langella, Dames puzzled (1968), Night and Day (2000) by Thomas Straussler, Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera (2003), and also the Cocteau’s final production, Jean Genet’s The Maids X two (2006). The building was purchased by Adam Gordon in 2007 for conversion into a non-public mansion with a rising wall, and also the Bowery street front used for retail. In 1967, the building was selected a replacement royalty town landmark,[1] and it had been adscititious to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.[6] The AIA Guide to big apple town calls it “One of the foremost subtle robust buildings.”
