St. Oswald features one of the last remaining Roman boundary stones in the district of Rohrbach. Back in ancient times, the Mühlviertel region marked the border between the Roman and Germanic empires, with the watershed of the Bohemian Forest serving as a more or less precise frontier between Bohemia and Austria/Bavaria. It was not until the reign of Empress Maria Theresia and Emperor Josef II that the frontier was precisely determined and recorded by a cartographer.
