Bor – a town of mining and metallurgy, a town of copper, is located in the Carpatho-Balkan region of the south-east Serbia. The municipality of Bor, with the area of 856 km2, is among the largest municipalities in Serbia, but with a less numerous population of 60 000. There are 12 rural settlements within the municipality of Bor (Brestovac, Zlot, Slatina, Krivelj, Donja Bela Reka, Metovnica, Šarbanovac, Oštrelj, Gornjane, Bučje, Luka i Tanda). It is also the home to one of the largest copper mines in Europe.
There are a number of significant nature reserves and interesting tourist centers in the vicinity of the town. In addition to Zlot Caves and Brestovačka Banja spa, there’s Bor lake, Crni vrh and Stol mountains, hunting grounds of Dubašnica, and youth resort Savača. These centres have good transportation connections to Bor and offer a variety of tourist and recreational activities: hunting and fishing, skiing and mountain tourism, bathing tourism.
The climate in the municipality of Bor is continental with the transition to sub-mountainous. It is characterized by long, dry and hot summers, cold and snowy winters, and distinct transitional seasons, with autumn being warmer and drier than spring.
