The Bonnet Carre spill may be a control operation within the Lower Mississippi vale. Situated in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana – concerning twelve miles (19 km) west of recent Orleans – it permits floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Pontchartrain and thence into the Gulf of North American country. The development of the spill was completed in 1931.
The Bonnet Carre spill consists of 2 basic components: an impression structure on the east bank of the Mississippi River and a floodway that transfers the amused flood waters to the lake.
