Detail InformationEdit

Bijli Mahadev Temple is full of mystery and miracles. The name comes from the fact that, the lightening (Bijli) strikes the Shiva linga inside the temple and breaks into pieces. The Shiva ling (Mahadev) will be joined together and installed in a special occasion using a locally made adhesive. One can witness the charred part (especially on the walls) inside the temple which is due to the flames resulted during lightning. Devotees can give offerings in the Hundi only kept inside the temple. Some puja articles are available inside the temple without any additional cost. Photography is not restricted anywhere in the place.

HistoryEdit

Bijli Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple houses the pictorial view of the luxuriant valley below. The Pahari style temple architecture offers an eye-catching scenario to visitors. Placed at a height of 2450 meters, this temple holds an amazing but true story of its own. It says that Shivlinga in the temple had broken into pieces due to lightning and the temple priest adheres it with butter. It is quite unbelievable that this strange phenomenon recurs every year. According to local belief, the ‘Shiva lingam’, the idol symbolising Shiva, inside the shrine had broken into pieces because of lightening. Later, the priests of the temple joined the shattered ‘Shiva lingam’ with butter. This ceremony of joining the parts of Shivlinga takes place annually. Tourists planning to visit this temple have to climb an uphill path that is flanked by pine trees. The beautiful views of the Parvati as well as the Kullu valleys can be seen from the temple.
