Big Sur may be a sparsely inhabited region of the Central Coast of Calif. Wherever the Santa Lucia Mountains rise short from the Pacific. The name “Big Sur” comes from the initial Spanish-language “el port grande”, that means “the huge south”, or from “el pais grande del sur”, “the huge country of the south”. Huge Sur’s Cone Peak is that the highest coastal mountain within the contiguous forty eight states, ascending nearly a mile (5,155 feet/1571 m) on top of water level, solely 3 miles (4.8 km) from the ocean.
