Bhilai is a city that is situated in the Durg district of the state of Chattisgarh. Many festivals are celebrated in the city and one can witness many of these throughout the year. Some of the festivals that are celebrated here are Durga Puja, Ganesh Chathurthi, Rath Yatra and the Tamil festival of Pongal. Satsang is a place where many Sikhs get together to pray. This is a good place to visit for those who follow the Sikh religion. The hallmark of the town is the religious unity and people of different religions can be seen here. The town has a zoo called the Maitri Bagh and this is one of the most important tourist places here. There are two manmade lakes that are present near the zoo as well. An old Shiv Mandir is located near the town and this is known as the Deobaloda temple. Tandula is an interesting picnic spot and many families from Bhilai can be seen here. An old palace is located at a place called Dhamdha. Some of the other places of interest are the Khakara and Hajra Falls. There are a few Jain temples that are located at a place called Nagpura that is situated 10 kilometers from Bhilai. The city of Bhilai experiences three main seasons and they are the summer, monsoon and winter season. The climate can be classified as a sub tropical type of climate. The summer season in the place can be hot and conditions are uncomfortable during this period. Bhilai receives moderate amount of rainfall during the monsoon season. Winters are moderately cold and temperatures can drop during the night.

The town of Bhilai is famous for the Bhilai Steel Plant, which is one of the biggest, not only in the country but also in the whole world. Bhilai is an industrial town and has a lot of other factories other than the Steel Plant that produce things like acids, gases, chemicals. The products that the Bhilai Steel Plant produces are rail, railway sleepers, construction materials and many other steel products. The town is connected to other parts of the state by a number of railway stations. The biggest of all is the Durg Railway station, which is also the nearest. Bhilai Powerhouse, KumhariThe famous destinations in the city of Bhilai that would attract the tourists are Maitri Bagh, Civic Center, Akash Ganga.

By Air : The Raipur Airport is the closest commercial airport and it is the only one that is currently operating in the state of Chhattisgarh. The airport is connected by flights from places such as Delhi, Nagpur, Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar, Indore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhopal and Ahmadabad. One can reach the place from any part of the country easily. Taxis are available at the airport and they charge around Rs 400 for the trip from Raipur to Bhilai.
By Train : The Durg Junction is located close to the city of Bhilai and many trains that ply along the Howrah to Mumbai line stop at this station. The station is connected to Kolkata and Mumbai by regular services. Ticket rates for a second class sleeper berth from Kolkata to Durg cost around Rs 330
By BUS : Government buses are available from the city of Raipur and they depart at various points through the day. Bhilai is also connected to Nagpur and Bilaspur through regular buses. Tickets from Raipur cost around Rs 50.
