Bhavnagar is the fifth largest city in the state of Gujarat, India. Bhavnagar was founded in 1724 by Bhavsinhji Gohil (1703–1764, its founder and ruler. It was the capital of Bhavnagar State, which was a princely state before it was merged into the Indian Union in 1948. It is now the administrative center of the Bhavnagar district. Bhavnagar is situated 198 km from the state capital Gandhinagar and to the west of the Gulf of Khambhat. Bhavnagar is the fifth largest city of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot; and the second largest city in the Saurashtra region. It is also known as the cultural capital of Saurashtra. Pilgrims thus flock to this region throughout the year, along with tourists who are awestruck by the sheer number of temples. You can also visit the Takhteshwar temple in Bhavnagar, and also the Aksharwadi temple in the region, as these are popular tourist destinations as well.

By Air : Bhavnagar has a domestic airport that has regular flights to the city of Mumbai and other cities in India. Two private carriers operate out of this airport, including Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways. Flights will be regularly available, and flight charges from the city of Mumbai to Bhavnagar will range around Rs 3400. This is a very comfortable way to reach the city of Bhavnagar, and it is the quickest way too.

By BUS : You can opt for buses to travel to the city of Bhavnagar, as many buses will be available from the cities and towns of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat. Bus fares will be quite high, and both air conditioned and non air conditioned buses will be available. Bus fares from the city of Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar will cost around Rs 200 to 250 for the basic class of travel. There are also frequent buses to Rajkot and Jamnagar.
