Bhagalpur is a city that is located in the state of Bihar in the Bhagalpur district. Bhagalpur is known as the Silk City and it is famous for the production of first grade silk products. It is one of the biggest cities in the state and has a reasonably well developed infrastructure. It is an old city and one can find references to the city from as far back as the 7th century. The town once had a harbor on the banks of the Ganges and excavations at the site have brought out coins and old boats. Some of these belong to different places in the Middle East and Far East and this shows the importance of the city in terms of trade. There are many interesting places that one can visit in the town and some of the main ones are Lajpat Park, Shiva Temple at Budanath, Champagnagar Jain Temple, Ghanta Ghar, Dargah of Guran Baba, Rabindra Nath Bhavan, Tegh Bahadur Gurudwara, Sandish Compound, Temple of Goddess Kali and Durga, Rajmahal Fossil Sanctuary and Sanjay Udyan Park. Many festivals are celebrated in the town as well and some of the main ones are Laxmi Puja, Kali Puja, Chath Puja and Dussehra. The Muslim festival of Muharram is also celebrated widely here. The town of Bhagalpur experiences climatic conditions that are similar to the climate in the others parts of Bihar. Summers are warm and temperatures can be high during this period. The place gets rainfall during the monsoon season. Winters are cold and temperatures can drop steeply during the peak winter season. It is advisable to travel with woolen clothing during this period.

Bhagalpur is a municipal corporation town situated in the planes of the Ganga river basin at the height of 141 feet above sea level in Bihar, India. It is the third largest city of Bihar,It is a city of historical importance on the bank of Ganges river, situated 220 km east of Patna and 410 km north west of Kolkata. Bhagalpur is the third largest city after Patna and Gaya in Bihar. The city was referred to as one of the biggest trade centers in eastern India by the 7th century Chinese travellers Hsüan-tsang and Fa-Hien. The city had a big harbour on the River Ganges at place called Champanagar (another name for Bhagalpur), now called Champanala, which flows on the western boundary of the present city near Nathnagar. During an archaeological excavation, many boats and coins of the Middle and Far East were found at the same place. Bhagalpur is well connected by rails and roadways.The silk industry in this city is hundreds of years old and its inhabitants have been producing silk for generations.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Patna and this is the best all round option. The Patna Airport is connected to many cities in the country and has frequent connectivity to places such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata. It is also connected to some of the smaller airports in the country such as Ranchi and Pune. For those who are landing at the airport, taxis will be readily available and one can reach the town of Bhagalpur using these. The distance from Patna to Bhagalpur is around 235 kilometers.
By Train :
The Bhagalpur Junction is an old station and it is connected to many important cities in the state. There are frequent trains that arrive from Patna and this is a good choice for those who are intending to travel by rail. Three tier A/C coaches charge fares of around Rs 325. This is one of the most comfortable options.
By BUS : State run buses are available from the city of Patna and this mode is used frequently by the local population. Tickets are cheap; however buses are not very comfortable.
By Taxi : The town of Bhagalpur has good road connectivity to many places in the state and one can easily reach the place using taxis.
