Beypore beach beach is just ½ kms from the city. This beach is located at the mouth of the River Chaliyar and gives you an opportunity to enjoy dreamlike vistas. This is one of the prominent ports and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala and was an important trade and maritime centre. Ancient Beypore Beach was much sought after by merchants from Western Asia, for its ship building industry.On the famous Bypore beach of Kerala, one can also visit the famous boat buiding yard. Get a close look on the proficiency with which these skilled craftsmen try their hands in making the world famous ‘uru’. You can also buy miniature boats – made either from teak or coconut – from the Kairali Emporium in Kozhikode. It takes around 50 ‘khalasis’ over a year to carve and shape an ‘uru’ out of teak and jackfruit timber.Gaze in wonderment at the serene water world, listen to the natural music of the sea waves and feel the quiet and calm of this lovely tour destination in Kerala, South India.

Beypore beach is a historical centre for shipbuilding of uru a wooden ship. This construction of ships are here from ancient times of the port.Beypore beach is in Kozhikode district and is very attractive with turquoise blue color sea. Beypore beach is situated near the Chaliyar River. This beach is a commercial one and mainly ship building is carried out from here. The boatyard here is very famous for its unique ship vessel which is called as Uru. It is constructed by traditional ship manufacturers called as Khalasis and this Uru has great demand in the Middle East. Almost a year is required to construct an Uru by carving and shaping them and may require around 50 Khalasis.The 1500 year old tradition of shipbuilding is still carried on by the locals.
