The idyllic resort village nestled Bern is near Salzburg in the rolling hills of Salzburg Lake District in beautiful Haunsberglage.
The municipality of Berne village lies at the foot of the Haunsberg and covers an area of 14.46 m2. It is scenically softly textured and shaped by the rural landscape with their villages and hamlets. The village lies at an altitude of 548 m, the highest point of the community is at the Linde Thurn. It is located on the Kalchgrubergut at an altitude of 687 m and is protected as natural monument.
Already in 1700 Berndorf was a popular place of pilgrimage. Protection and assistance were sought, then as now at the Berndorfer rays Madonna. From 1829 to 1835, the composer of the famous Christmas carol “”Silent Night, Holy Night”” as a teacher, sacristan and organist in Berndorf worked. A memorial plaque and the annual Franz Xaver Gruber singing the Christmas season to remember.
