Benog Wildlife Sanctuary has been developed as a bird-watching haven and is a part of the famous Rajaji National Park. It is about 11-kilometer (6.8 mile) from Library point in Mussoorie. Popular tourist attractions near Benog are Park Estate and Cloud’s End, from where a 2-kilometer (1.24 mile) trek uphill leads to the Sanctuary. Benog Wildlife Sanctuary,is with pine-clad slopes, surrounded by snow-capped peaks of Himalaya. Trekking here is thrilling experience. The place is best for bird watching, and holds extinct species such as mountain quails and red-billed blue magpie. Sighting animals like deer and leopard is quite common. Although Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is open all the year round, the best time to visit is in the summer months. There is no entry fee to the Sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary is home to several species of exotic birds such as White Capped Water Redstart and Red Billed Blue Magpie to name a few. The Sanctuary’s claim-to-fame however, is the bird after which it is named. The Mountain Quail or the Pahari Bater was last spotted here in 1876, and is now considered extinct. The Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is located far away from the usual tourist haunts in Mussoorie and, offers the quiet and solace that many visitors seek in the mountains. The view of the rising sun is stunning and something that nature lovers should not miss. However, in order to get here in time to watch the sunrise, visitors should leave very early from lower Mussoorie since vehicles are not easily available and they would have to walk quite a distance. The verdant forest, groves of many trees such as fir and pine lend an enticing crisp aroma in the air.

Taxi : Mussoorie is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Mussoorie by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

BUS : Mussoorie is well connected with motorable roads. Luxury and normal Buses to Mussoorie are easily available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Buses and Taxis to Mussoorie are also available from major destinations of Uttarakhand state like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Tehri, etc.

Train : Mussoorie does not have a train station,The nearest railway station to Mussoorie is Dehradun Railway station. Dehradun is well connected by trains from major cities of India. There are two trains that run daily between Delhi to Dehradun and vice-versa. Mussoorie is located 36kms from Dehradun Railway Station. Shatabdi Express and Mussoorie Express are the two major trains connecting Dehradun with major cities of India. Taxis and Buses are asily available from Dehradun to Mussoorie.

Safety / WarningEdit

1. Driving in hilly area is risky, always keep control of your speed especially in the curves if possible avail services of a driver.
2. In Hilly road please dont take over form the wrong side as its is very risky.
3. Mussoorie has an enormous range of weather conditions, as it can be largely warm and hot in summer (day time), and mild to pleasant cold in winters. Like any hill station Mussoorie, experiences unpredictable and sudden changes in weather. Do check the type of clothing and other equipment you may require for the season you are visiting.
4. Always keep your Identity Card to avoid hasselment in hotels. Etc..
5. Dispose all litter carefully. The use of Plastic Polythene Bags is banned.
