Detail InformationEdit

This is your chance to travel back in time and to experience more than 850 years of the history of the abbey, which was established in 1144.
This abbey is also a fine example of Baroque architecture; this is due to the abbot at that time Placius Much, the architect Josef Munggenast and the painter Paul Troger (from South-Tirol), who contributed a great deal to the flair of this abbey. Visitors are especially attracted by the nine dome-frescos by Paul Troger. Come and find out for yourself why this abbey is called the “”Baroque gem”” of the Waldviertel.
