According to common legend, the name “Bear” originated from a building settled on the road from Wilmington to capital of Delaware, Delaware (at the intersection currently shaped by U.S. forty and State Route 7), whose sign was adorned with the image of an oversized bear.[citation needed] Originally a little crossroads in a rural space south of Wilmington, the realm supported little farms growing principally corn and kine. within the late Eighties and Nineties Bear became a preferred location for the development of sprawling housing developments and shopping mall on U.S. Route forty. Bear isn’t AN incorporated municipality or strictly represented space within the county. Bear may be a census-designated place (CDP) in New Castle County, Delaware, u. s..
