Featuring one of the deepest seaports within the Gulf of Guinea, Bata is a port city located on the mainland Litoral Province of Equatorial Guinea. It is also a major transportion hub and a main port from where ships and ferries set sail to Malabo, Douala and other important destinations of this region. Despite absence of a natural harbor, the jetty constructed at the Bata seaport effectively facilitates handling of large amounts of export cargoes primarily including coffee and timber to various regional destinations along the Atlantic Ocean.
Home to several good hotels, bars and restaurants, quite a few beaches are located near Bata City which attract visitors who are mostly here for business purposes. Well served by the Bata Airport which provides scheduled services to Libreville in Gabon as well, Bata is more popular with the Equatorial Guinean citizens than with the foreigners. Well known for its markets and an extended nightlife, Bata City has definitely benefitted from the boom brought on by the discovery of oil in Equatorial Guinea.
