BASILICA DEDICATED TO THE BIRTH TO THE VIRGIN MARY was build in a place of Virgin’s Mary Orthodox Church. Present building was build within years 1735-1756 according to Paweł Fontana, thanks to Filip Wołodkowicz, bishop of Chełm foundation. Here, on the 15th of September 1765 the coronation of a picture of Our Lady of Chełm took place (the original icon was taken by Russians in 1915 and is now kept in Łuck – Ukraine). After wounding down the union, the church was redecorated, giving it a Byzantine-Orthodox character. In 1919 the church was given to the Catholics. A St Mary’s Parish was established in 1931. This temple is an architectural monument and also an old sanctuary of Virgin Mary, which was build based on the cult of the Mother of God of Chełm.
