Barog has now grown to a large extent, making it an important tourist destination. The town of Barog is the perfect spot for enjoying a great picnic with nature as the place is nestled in a region of lush green beauty. The town is named after the engineer who was designing a tunnel near the railway station. After the work was started, due to Barog’s miscalculation the ends of the tunnel did not meet and he was fined for Rs 1 from the British government. He could not bear this humiliation and committed suicide. His grave is located near the tunnel, and hence the place got its name. The Renuka Lake located close to Barog is a very important tourist destination in the region and many tourists flock to the place mainly to see this lake. This lake is the largest lake in the entire state of Himachal Pradesh and it is named after Goddess Renuka, who is also popularly known as the mother of Parashurama in Indian mythology. You can also visit the Rajgarh area during your trip to the town of Barog. This region is known for its natural splendour, and can serve as an ideal spot for a family picnic. There are many picnic spots in and around the town of Barog, including Nacchna and Habban. Shalooni Devi Temple located close to Barog is also an important tourist attraction.

Barog is a small hill station of Himachal Pradesh. Over the years, the place has developed into a major holiday destination. The place hails its name from the name of the engineer Barog who built the Barog station. This hill station is well known for its 1143 meter long tunnel. Barog is on the Kalka-Shimla highway. This hilly resort of Barog is under the cover of enormous pine trees on all sides. The place is ideal for a visit both during the summers and winters. Snowfall takes place in winter.The graveyard of Barog, is a tourist spot now. The tranquil and solitary backdrop attracts tourists to Barog.

By Air : The town of Barog is well linked with airways and can be easily reached through buses. The whole town is well connected with the rest of the towns in the state. One can come to this place via airways as there are various direct flights which provide its services to Barog.’
By Train : The town of Barog has a railway station which has narrow gauge trains to the city of Shimla. This railway station is also connected to Kalka, as it lies in the Kalka-Shimla route. The ride will be picturesque, and train fares will range around Rs 20 to 280 in this route.
By BUS : Barog serves as a base for visiting other hill stations, so frequent buses to the town will be available. You will get buses from the town of Sholan, which lies at a distance of eight kilometres and also from the town of Kasauli, which lies at a distance of twenty one kilometres. Buses from the town of Chail will also be available to the town of Barog, and this lies at a distance of fifty four kilometres from the town of Barog. Buses from the cities of Shimla and Chandigarh will also be available. Bus fares to Barog will only range around Rs 50 to 60 as all these places are located quite close by. Government run buses are the main mode of transport in the region.
